At last Birmingham celebrates its history with permanent galleries of exhibits. Amongst other cities this follows the new Museum of Liverpool and the MShed in Bristol, and not before time! I must say they’ve created an interesting if simple collection but the new galleries, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund are impressively brightly constructed and far removed from the dismal interior of traditional museums. Modern technology is used to good effect though you’ll have to go in school time if you want to try the Interactive Map, as it is so magnetic for children that I gave up after waiting 10 minutes for a family to stop playing with it – not the content – the technology! Here are some photos to illustrate how the galleries are constructed.
