And the locals rushed in……whilst Tescos went quiet!
The store opened on Monday 22 October and without doubt it is one of their showcase stores – bright and colourful. Its fresh food departments are large and superbly equipped and, unusually, it has a dry cleaning department and separate flower shop as well as a large café upstairs. It is the fresh food departments which are the most impressive comprising:
Fresh To Go – fruit and snacks
Pizzas – ready-made and build your own
Greengrocers – a tremendous display of fresh fruit and vegetables and herbs kept fresh with water vapour
Deli and Cheesemonger – a wide range of cheeses and cooked meats
Oven Fresh – cooked in store and available hot – chicken, pork ribs, ham hocks, sausages and savoury pastries
Butcher – who will produce cuts to your liking
Fishmonger – fresh and always a strength of the company
Cake shop – with shop finished quality fresh cakes
Bakery – with the largest range of breads and foreign bakes I’ve seen.
I visited the store on Tuesday 23rd October 11 and it was buzzing withe shoppers and eager store assistants. Then I visited Tescos at Fiveways and found it very quiet. This is not surprising but a battle has commenced without doubt especially as Tescos recently completely refurbished their store and introduced a wet fish counter and butcher (Halal only) – a fishmonger and butcher are two of Morrison’s strengths. Tesco has replaced its value café with a Costa coffee bar.
Hopefully we consumers will be the eventual winners.
