HSBC City Ride – Sunday 11th June 2017

A city bicycle event to join in.

The HSBC UK City Ride Birmingham is a free, mass participation bicycle ride for children, young people and families, aimed at giving participants an enjoyable and safe city-centre cycling experience in a traffic free environment. It’s a great day out for families with lots to do both on and off a bike.

The event will take place along a 5km traffic free closed road linear route that starts and finishes next to Victoria Square and runs from Paradise Street, along Broad Street, Hagley Road and Highfield Road before looping back to Victoria Square.

As you will be aware, events of this size inevitably involve changes to services and the introduction of traffic management measures. While we are putting plans in place to minimise disruption, road closures and diversions are required both to form the route and ensure the safety of participants and spectators.

At the foot of this letter is a representative map showing the route; it also includes the areas which will be affected by closures and the closure timings. Please check the location of your property to see how your road and surrounding area will be affected, and the best ways of travelling around the city on Sunday 11th June.

Parking restrictions will come into force on Swallow Street and Highfield Road (between Hagley Road and Harborne Road) from 00:30hrs on Sunday 11th June to facilitate building the course. They will remain in place until approximately 17:00hrs on Sunday 11th June. Any vehicles parked directly on these roads, and any of the roads to be closed during this time will be uplifted. Therefore, you are advised to park off the route before 07:00hrs on Sunday 11th June.

It is important to note that the cycle route makes up a closed circuit that cannot be crossed by vehicles, except emergency service vehicles. Pedestrian access is available at designated crossing points.

If you have mobility issues, secure private parking or would normally receive deliveries between 07:00-17:00hrs on a Sunday please contact us on 0333 011 2776* or email for further advice.

Bus services that would normally use the roads affected by this event will be diverted for the day. Please see the Transport for West Midlands website ( for details of diverted routes.

With your support, we plan to stage a successful free cycling community event that highlights the wonderful city of Birmingham.  May we take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your patience and understanding in the lead up to and during this event.

Having the freedom of riding a bike is a big part of growing up, where Go-Ride helps young cyclists to improve their skills through fun, coached sessions in traffic-free spaces. With high quality coaching in schools, at events and within 350 Go-Ride Clubs, it’s no surprise that 90% of the Great Britain Cycling Team came through the Go-Ride programme.

*Please note: phone lines will be staffed Monday to Friday from 9am until 5pm and during the event weekend. Some local rate call charges may apply; please check with your network provider.
