Yes, all the hallways and stairwells in both phases are being repainted.
This is an initiative by the KEW RTM Management Companies.
The wall and ceiling colour is virtually the same as before but more pleasing to the eye I think – it is Magnolia. The paint is rolled on to produce a pleasing texture.
The woodwork is now white gloss instead of being the same colour as the walls, and this lifts the overall brightness.
The work is being carried out a core at a time, and sensibly is following in the footsteps of the electrical contractors who are fitting movement sensing lights.
Work is currently scheduled to be completed at the end of July, but unfortunately the third member of the contractor team, Ken, has been ill with pneumonia since before Christmas.
The contractors – HQ Decorators – is a small family run business. The proprietor is Mark and is pictured above with his daughter.
Mark has been in the painting and decorating trade since leaving school 26 years ago. In 2010 he set up HQ Decorators following his redundancy as a contracts manager from one of the UK’s largest painting companies.
Mark says “HQ stands for High Quality an ethos that I have adopted and practised throughout my career as a painter and a manager.”
“We undertake a variety of commercial and domestic painting and decorating contracts, ranging from small units, shops, offices, hotels, schools, flats, apartments, cottages and houses, interior or exterior.”
Interestingly, daughter Zoë is in the middle of her painting & decorating apprenticeship with the firm.
Judging from my core (6) a fine job is being done with great consideration for Residents and minimal disruption and mess. On completion, each painted area is left clean with no refuse. The makeover has certainly produced a welcome freshness and brightness to the communal areas.
